Troy Bell

It is whom I thought it was!

Here is an e-mail from Troy:

David, it's good to hear from you, and please accept my compliments for the class blog you've posted. That story from 12/23 with the mud-stuck MD-80 wasn't exactly one of our better days....

My family is doing well. I married a wonderful woman from Texas named Melinda, and we have three children, Josh, Nick & Natalia. The boys are both attending college, and my daughter is in third grade, so you might imagine that we have a variety of interests around our household.

I do not expect to attend the July class reunion, but wish a great time to all who can make it. For future reference, my personal contact information is as follows:

Troy M. Bell

Take care, and I will check the blog from time to time.

Music CD from Trish, Elise, and Beth!

Trish Coughlin Murray, Elise Stevens, and Beth Lavine Mullaney will be producing a music CD containing artists and songs from our era. "We would like people to send in requests," says Beth, "They should send in either specific songs or artists that remind them of their time at BHS. They can email me requests directly at mullaneybk@aol.com. We would like as much input as possible. "

Be sure to mention such artists as Elton John, Billy Joel, Chicago, Leo Sayre, The Captain and Tennille, Boston, Kansas, Kiss, Queen, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, KC and the Sunshine Band, Barry Manilow, Donna Summer, Helen Reddy, The Bee Gees, The Osmonds, Donny and Marie, The Jackson Five, Sonny and Cher, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, or anyone else, for that matter.

Yes, that's right. Just let Beth know. Thanks. This special internet offer does not end at midnight tonight. Get your ideas into Beth today!

The Battle of New Orleans

I remember how popular a hit song this was with our class. This was the Jimmy Driftwood song sung by Johnny Horton from the 1950's about the famous battle. Does anybody remember why the song was so popular with our classmates? Please e-mail me (dmeckler@att.net) with your insight and perspective on this and I'll include your comments on future postings. Thanks.

The Battle Of New Orleans
Johnny Horton

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We looked down the river and we seed the British come
And there must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood behind our cotton bales and didn't say a thing

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets till we looked 'em in the eyes
We held our fire till we seed their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and gave 'em ..

Well....we......fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannonballs 'n' powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
