Terry Black to hang it up!
Montrose Plans to Honor Retiring Principal Black at Arts Festival
Montrose Elementary School will dedicate its 2007 Arts Festival to honor retiring principal, Terry Black. The annual event, featuring a visual arts exhibit , is set for Thursday, May 17, 2007 from 5:30pm until 8:00pm at the school, 2555 East Main Street in Bexley.
"Our Arts Festival is always a fun gathering of the Montrose community and we knew Mr. Black would love celebrating in this way," said Montrose parent, Carol Beckerle who is helping to organize the dedication. "Mr. Black has been a strong supporter of the arts at Montrose, so it is fitting to honor him at this event which truly celebrates children and their creativity," added parent Cassandra (Loeffert) Andorka.
Event planners invite the entire Montrose community -- past and present -- to share special Montrose memories with Mr. Black. Even those who cannot attend will be able to include their congratulations by sending notes to Ms. Beckerle at carolbeckerle@columbus.rr.com.
Hired by the school district in 1977 as Assistant Principal at Bexley High School, Mr. Black was named Montrose Elementary principal in 1986. A graduate of Bexley's Capital University who holds a master's from Xavier University, he also served as Bexley's interim Superintendent in 1985 -1986. Mr. Black officially retired from the school district in 2006, but remained in his position for an extra year as the search for his replacement was underway.
The 2007 Montrose Arts Festival will conclude at 8:00 pm with a dedication ceremony to Mr. Black in the Montrose gymnasium. For more information, contact Ms. Andorka at smile41962@aol.com or 614.231.3329
For the past 23 years, under Terry's leadership, Montrose has been the heart of our community. He always put the children first and refused to take credit for his many accomplishments. His leadership and example will be greatly missed.
