Former Maryland Elementary School Principal passes on

SCATTERDAY Susan Jane Scatterday, age 92, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at home with HomeReach Hospice Care and with (24/7) care with two excellent caregivers, Deana Zink and Shirley Catalina. Born April 17, 1916 to parents Henry and Caroline Scatterday in Worthington, Oh. Preceded in death by three brothers and a sister Dr. L.C. Scatterday, Dr. Henry Scatterday, Dr. James Scatterday and Elizabeth McGurer. Survived by three nieces, Carolyn Bennett, Carol Grotheer, Jane Papin; and nephew, Dr. James Scatterday; several grand nieces and nephews, several great-grand nieces and nephews; and two long time dear dear friends, Dorothy McCoy and Dr. Ruth Purdy; wonderful neighbors; and a multitude of friends. Sue graduated with a Master degree from The Ohio State University; in 1940 taught at Montrose School; later became reading supervisor of Bexley Schools; and in 1950 became the first Principal of Maryland Avenue Elementary School. She retired in 1973. She was a member of the Bexley School Board for 8 years, supervised student teachers from O.S.U. and Capital University; was a member of Bexley United Methodist Church, Bexley Women's Club, and O.S.U. Alumni Association. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Bexley United Methodist Church, 2657 E. Broad St., Bexley, Oh. 43209 with Pastor Frank Luchsinger officiating. Family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Sue has provided for food after the service which will be prepared and served by the women of the Church. In lieu of flowers, Sue has asked that donations be made to the Bexley United Methodist Church or to HomeReach Hospice, 180 E. Broad St., Columbus, Oh. 43215. A private family interment to follow at a later date at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, Oh. 43085. David Eisenstein - Beach Tennis Star
David Eisenstein displays his forehand in the exciting new sport of beach tennis recently in Sarasota, FL. Beach tennis combines tennis, badminton, and beach volleyball. Players use regular tennis rackets in trying to hit a depressurized tennis ball. Plans are underway to convert to using paddle-type or smaller rackets in the future.
