Jeff Danter's insight/perspective on Katrina
Blogmaster's note: I e-mailed Jeff regarding Hurricane Katrina (just as I did with Cherrie Groves). His response follows:
Coincidentally, I was in northern Canada on a wilderness canoe trip and didn't know about Katrina. I returned last Friday. I, and all the Nature Conservancy staff and volunteers in Alabama, were spared by Katrina. One of our staff is from New Orleans, and he hosted his family for a week before they returned to Louisiana to stay with friends, and our Mobile office was without power for several days.
Our organization's first priority is to help out our staff and their families in southern Mississippi and Louisiana. We are now planning an assessment of TNC properties along the coast. After that, we will participate in the planning of ecological restoration efforts throughout the lower Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico.
Thanks for asking! Hope all is well with you.
