John T. Loehnert obit

Todd Loehnert lost his father on Monday. Todd, our condolences to you and your family during this time as you mourn his passing. May you have fond memories of him.

John Tyler Loehnert

LOEHNERT John Tyler Loehnert, age 82, of Bexley, passed away on July 11, 2005 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital. Born June 3, 1923 to the late Frank and Elizabeth Loehnert and survived by loving wife, Gail of 59 years; 4 children, Leslie Gllmer, Tyler (Lisa) Leohnart, Brooke (Rob) Struthers and Todd (Patricia) Loehnert; grandchildren, Peter and Joe Gilmer, T.J. and Daniel Loehnert, Sarah and Jack Waddell, Ryan and Lauren Loehnert; step-grandchildren, Taylor and Wood Struthers. Also brother, Frank Loehnert Jr.; sister, Ann Kitzmiller. Graduate of Bexley High School and Denison University where he was President of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Senior Men's Honorary. Veteran of World War II, served in U.S. Navy and retired as Captain in Naval Reserve. Member of Sons of the American Revolution and American Legion. Former head Basketball Coach at Denison University. Vice President Dollar Federal Savings and Loan Association, Mortgage Loan Officer Chase Manhattan Bank, Columbus. Retired 1988. Past President of Athletic Club of Columbus, Columbus and State Council United States Navy League, Columbus Jets, Eastern Kiwanis, Bexley Area Chamber of Commerce, Columbus Chapter Denison University Alumni, Franklin County Chapter American Cancer Society, American Savings and Loan Institute. Past National Director United States Navy League. Voice of the Bexley High School Football Program for over 20 years, organized and ran Bexley 5th and 6th Grade Basketball Program for over 20 years. Former member of Bexley City Council and Interim Mayor of Bexley in 1995. Bexley Citizen of the Year, 1986. Lifetime member of Bexley Boosters, Inducted into Bexley High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Bexley Representative on Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC). Other honors: Distinguished Alumni Award Denison University, 1980 and Jefferson Award (American Insitute of Public Service), 1987. He was respected by all who knew him and will be missed. Member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005 with Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Alban's Memorial Fund, Bexley Education Fund or Sigma Chi Foundation at Denison University. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER MID TOWN CHAPEL.
