Recognize a familiar face?

Click on this link and go to page 7. See if you can recognize our
classmate in the photo. He's also quoted in the story. He looks
just like he did during his doubles tennis playing days at Bexley (hint, hint).

Cathy Klunk Armstrong and Kathy Metz Armstrong

What’s in a married name, albeit different spellings? Well, in our class we have Cathy Klunk Armstrong and Kathy Metz Armstrong. I’ve e-mailed them both about this and I just heard back from Klunk. Cathy is just back from a trip to France where she followed the Tour de France firsthand. I’ve not heard from Metz. When I do, this will be updated to reflect what Kathy e-mailed me.

Klunk says her husband and Metz’s husband are not related. Cathy knows Kathy from Bexley, but they haven’t kept in touch.

Professionally, Klunk has made a career working in the pharmaceutical industry. "I have spent the last 15 years working on my career. I finished my Masters in Exercise Physiology and my undergrad was in Medical technology with a minor in Chemistry," Klunk says, "I went on to specialize in Molecular Diagnostics and I now work with a large pharma corp Roche Dignostics. I specialize in sales of DNA & RNA testing and equipment for PCR."

Klunk’s husband, Chris Armstrong, serves as Fitness Director for the Sacramento Metro Fire Department and Academy. "We have both spent the past 15 years on our careers and are now looking at retirement in the next 2.5 years," says Klunk, "We will continue to travel and most likely settle in the foothills near Yosemite where we are currently looking for a 2nd home to retire to."

Klunk says she and Metz were in some of the same classes with some of the same teachers when they met in junior high school. The two also hung out and ran around together during that time, says Klunk, who considers the name similarity "very much" a fluke. No one mixes the two of them up because they live in different states, according to Klunk.

Klunk would welcome a reunion with Metz. "Would be interested in catching up to say hello, if Kathy is in Cali ever. I’m usually home for the holidays but it is difficult with both our families and trying to share time. Chris is one of 8 children and we are usually crazy in the holidays," says Klunk, "I’ll be home a few times in the fall to see the folks and if there is any contact info available while I’m in town please let me know."

Again, when Kathy Metz Armstrong responds, this will be updated to reflect Kathy's responses.

Beth Costello Erdy e-mail

I e-mailed Beth after Teri informed us of her new e-mail. I asked Beth about her daughters who compete in team sports for Olentangy Liberty High School. Her response now follows:

Hi David:

It was good to hear from you. Sorry I missed everyone at the reunion. We had a family wedding in Indianapolis that weekend. Yes, that is my daughter Brittny who plays basketball for Liberty. The year you saw her she was a sophomore -- playing on the varsity team. She had a very good season last year as a junior - starting as a shooting gaurd. This year she is a senior an is one of the captains of the team! We are very proud of her. She has worked very hard and is quite a good little player. She is also a member of the varsity volleyball team and has been on the varsity team since her sophomre year. Brittny suffered a serious back injury - she ruptured 2 discs in her lower back and underwent major back surgery in April of 2004! She has recovered beautifully and didn't miss any of her bball or vball seasons last year. We are really looking forward to this, her senior year!

And, you're right we also have another daughter who plays volleyball and basketball for Liberty High School. Brooke will be a junior this year (just 13 months younger than Brittny). It is a lot of fun to watch the girls playing out there together. Brooke is an outstanding volleyball player -- she is an outside hitter and very powerful. Brittny is the setter on the team so it is fun to watch the teamwork between the two of them. My old high school coaches, Sandy Haines and Vince Speciale would be proud of their accomplishments!!

We also have a 3rd daughter, Brynn, who is going into the 7th grade. She would like to follow in her sisters footsteps with vball and bball but, she is a very good tennis player and tennis is a fall sport like volleyball. So, she has some decisions to make! Tryouts for the 7th grade team is coming up. Right now I think she is leaning towards volleyball......we'll see!

Thanks for asking about Todd, too. He is great! Enough about my family....How are you doing?

Come watch a game or two sometime! Take care and keep in touch.

More reunions for Morof

Hi all:

Went to my husband's 25th reunion last night. he had a class of 600 and there were only about 80 or so folks there. They had a DJ but no one even was in the room listening to him. They were all in the hall of the hotel (Hilton) chatting away.

We left at about 11:30 PM The woman who coordinated it had blown up their senior photos and had them on the wall which was cool and she made name tags with everyone's senior pictures on them. Very nice touch.

The charge for dinner was $85 a person.

Need feedback about our reunion so when you get a chance, please get back to me.

Teri

Cut and paste this to respond or fill out the one attached and send back via email. Thanks so much.

Doug Andrews e-mail

Doug joined us for the parade on Monday. It was great to see him. Here is an e-mail from him:

Teri and David:

Thanks so much for all of your work coordinating our classmates. From reading all the entries on the blog and from talking with several people last weekend, it's clear that you two were the biggest forces behind all the festivities, though it seems there were several who put their heads and hands together to make it all happen. I'm sorry that I came over only for the parade. It sounds as though everything went great.

For your records, here's my current contact info:

Doug Andrews
6147 Mills Rd.
Springfield, OH 45502
DAndrews@Wittenberg.Edu

There you have it. And in case anyone is interested, here's what I've been up to since our graduation. Free free to post this on the blog or in newsletters, as you see fit.

After college in Minnesota and grad school in Iowa, I took a job at Wittenberg University here in Springfield, where I'm a tenured full professor. I also do a bit of private statistical consulting on the side.

Check out the home-brewed blog at

http://www4.wittenberg.edu/academics/mathcomp/andrews/professional/

for more details on my professional life.

My long-time partner and I are not married, but we live together in two nearby houses outside of town. My new house is right on a state scenic river (the North Fork of the Little Miami) in a beautiful farm valley looking out over a huge ash grove and creek pasture, on 8 acres that I have planted in 6 kinds of prairie grasses and about 15 kinds of wildflowers.

My partner and I have completed about 20 triathlons and a couple marathons, and we enjoy hiking and camping and wilderness trips. (We just got back from a week canoeing in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota.) We're also part of an old-time fiddle band that plays
small gigs in the area. I'd love to hear from anyone who wants to come over for a visit to my prairie and woodshop, from anyone who has a gig for our band, or from anyone who has high school kids that might want to attend Wittenberg. Send those bright kids our way....

Thanks again, Teri and David, for all of your efforts.

Doug

Tying up some loose ends...

First, while we honored the memory of our classmates Melissa Becker and Michael Shamhart, we did not take time to honor those classmates who have served our country in the military. Brian Williams attended Friday and Saturday. A year ago, Brian retired after a 20 year Army career. We may have had a few other classmates serve as well.

Our reunion occurred during 4th of July weekend, a time when we annually celebrate the freedom and liberty we too often take for granted. Thanks to Brian and other classmates who have worn the military uniform and the colors of our country for making it possible for us to do so from one year to the next! We are grateful to you for your service to our nation!

Second, got e-mail from Julie Hendershot Minister with her new address (which is also included in the classmate update booklet).:

Third, from Leslie Mormol Green's e-mail:

From everyone to Teri:

Words will never be able to express the appreciation we have for all of the work you did. If it wasn't for you, your work, your personality, your dedication, your phone calls, your E-mails, the weekend would not have been as successful as it was.

Driving in for the meetings was quite special and way beyond anything you needed to do. This helped with consistency and getting the necessary jobs done. You helped the procrastinators stay on target and fulfill their duties.

WE NEED YOU FOR ALL OF THE FUTURE REUNIONS!

We hope those who attended this year will attend in the future years as well as draw in more of the class. We hope that all will do some part in future reunions as well.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

BEXLEY CLASS OF 1980

And, from Teri:
In a message dated 7/5/2005 11:40:33 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, FITNESS T writes:

Hi everyone:

I am so glad so many of you made time to come to Columbus to celebrate our 25th class reunion. It was so much fun to see all of you visiting and catching up with each other. 71 of you attended one or more of the events during the weekend. Your attendance was what made it a success. Thank you soooo much. All of the events were a huge success.

We will be having a follow up reunion committee meeting shortly. Anyone is welcome to attend. Feel free to send me your feedback...good or bad....to help us plan for future reunions.

I feel it necessary to thank the following people for their dedication in making this a very successful reunion weekend:

First let me thank my committee for attending Sat morning meetings and one Monday night meeting during the last 9 months or so. You know who you are. A very big thanks.

Barb Hunt-thanks for your hard work getting the parade coordinated, from renting the truck to picking it up, getting the hay, putting the signs up, picking out and setting up the table decorations, etc. Very Big Thanks!! You are signed up to help for the next one.

Leslie Mormol Green-you were a shining star- your efforts setting up everything at the country club on your own and coordinating the party by picking out the menu, working with the catering department to make the evening so special, depositing checks and keeping good records on who had paid for dinner and T-shirts-You are an asset to the committee. Please continue to help in the future. I need you!!

Mike Lefkowitz-Thanks for suggesting Rocky Fork. It was an awesome venue for us. Big thanks. Your enthusiasm for the reunion was so awesome. Thanks.

Carole Yoder-Thanks for an awesome job on the invites and postcards. You were so much fun to work with and what a great job you did considering all the other stuff going on in your life.

Cassandra Loeffert Andorka-thanks for addressing all envelopes and postcards for the mailings. The Memory Book that you had people sign in was such a nice touch. Glad you could help us with that.

Cheryl Harris Rushman: Thanks for your hard work...your terrific secretarial skills were such an asset to the committee....you kept great records of the class on the excel spreadsheet program. Thanks for all your super hard work on that. You did such an awesome job getting everyone's name typed on a document for me so that I could then use it to put together the classmate updates.Your help with picking out and setting up the decorations was also a huge contribution! Thanks. You are officially appointed secretary for our committee meetings.

David Beck-It you don't know already, I adore you! You were such a help to us when you stepped up to drive the truck and pick it up ahead of time. A huge big hug and big thanks.

Susan Callif: Thanks for being a greeter and hosting the classmate pre-parade meeting spot at your home...that was so wonderful that you could help us out. Appreciated you making the phone calls too. Thank you so much. Keep helping us in the future. We need your spunk and spirit.

Tommy Kauffman: you did an awesome job on the t-shirts. thanks for coming up with such an awesome design. The banners were beautiful. Thanks for picking out such perfect ones.

Susan Hughes Morgan, Susan Callif Eisenman, Greg Lake, Barbie Davis Acton, Jackie Halla Sharpe, Roanne Smith, David Meckler, Mike Lefkowitz, and Tish Finan Overholt..... Thanks for being greeters at the different events. I really appreciated it.

Jackie Halla Sharpe-thanks for getting us signed up for the picnic and getting the photographer. you always step up. Thanks for also working to coordinate the letter for the charitable contribution to the high school.

Rhonda Lashen Schottenstein-thank you for attending the committee meetings and providing us your ideas. You were so helpful.

Eric Acton: Thank you so much for leading us on a very special tour through the high school. It was just amazing to see all of the changes.

And David Meckler-there are not enough words to express my gratitude to you for your efforts. You are an amazing person and a great team player. You stepped up and got us hooked up to the BHS80Blog, put an awesome quiz together, made copies of the quiz, picked up the give away, attended meetings, shared your memorabilia with us, took awesome photos during the weekend and posted them on line for us to enjoy right away, made phone calls, helped with the T-shirts, and made everyone feel welcome. You even drove Elise, Trish, Beth, and Dana to their hotel on Sat. night after Rubinos. You are a true gentleman! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for Your Top Ten Reasons for not attending the reunion, the CD you put together, and Pre and Post Reunion reflections. Wow is all I can say! ( I apologize if you contributed to the weekend and I left you out.)

Extra T-shirts are available. Let me know if you would like to still purchase one.

I can mail out booklets or can send through email. Email me if you would like either one. I have some photos from you. Let me know if you want them back. Please feel free to send me copies of your class photos. Many of you mentioned that you had these elementary photos. Feel free to send them to me...you can make a color copy or just send the original. I will send it right back.

Tami (Price) Woods e-mail

Got this e-mail from Tami:

I just wanted to say that I was sorry that I was unable to attend. Everything looked as though it turned out great...I was happy for the pictures. I have 5 children with two of them one year apart; a July 1st and July 3rd birthday...so that is a hard weekend to make many changes.

Thanks again for all the updates and keep them coming...I enjoyed all very much.

And suddenly, it’s over. (A reunion retrospective and postmortem)

Are you having a case of post partum reunion depression?

Yeah? Well, me too!

Wow! Was that a weekend or what?

Well, we did it!

From Friday’s mixer at Old Bag of Nails and Saturday’s dinner at Rocky Fork(and postgame at Rube’s) to Sunday’s school tour and picnic, as well as on the parade float on Monday, we had a hell of a good time!

We may be getting older, but we have jobs!

We want Rex, We want Rex!
(We didn’t get him on the float, darn it, but we did get the beers! Thanks, Rex!)

You kids are the best. You have been and you still are. It was great being with all of you over the weekend and learning what you have been up to these days. We always knew we were capable of great things, but you folks have far exceeded any of our wildest dreams, goals, and expectations. Keep it up! You’re doing a great job!

Hope you enjoyed the quiz. That was fun to put together. It’s no surprise that as people who know how to take a test, you all passed with flying colors and performed as well as you did.

Thanks to all of you who attended at least one of the events during the weekend. It was great to see so many of you, especially those of you "newbies" who experienced this for the first time.

Thanks also for your kind and generous words of appreciation so many of you expressed to those of us on the planning committee about how the weekend turned out. We are grateful to you for that. Being with you folks all weekend was the big payoff for us and made everything we put into it all worthwhile.

Thanks go to Eric and Barbie Davis Acton for organizing the school tour. Eric did a great job of showing us all the changes that have been made since we've been away.

Thanks to my fellow committee members: Carole Yoder, Rhonda Lashen Schottenstein, Leslie Mormol Green, Barb Hunt (who got us the flatbed truck so we wouldn’t have to walk the parade route, Thanks, Barb), Jackie Halla Sharpe, Tom Kauffman (Great job on the t-shirts, Tom), Michael Lefkowitz, Susan Callif Eisenman, Greig Lake, Sherri Rossman, Susan Hughes Morgan, Cassandra Loeffert Andorka, and Cheryl Harris Rushman (I apologize if I left anyone out). It was great to work with you kids on this. You made it a lot of fun.

And, last, but not least. Thanks to our fearless (and tireless) leader, our Awesome, Outstanding Alumni Representative, Teri Cohodes Morof, for, once again, working to pull off another great class reunion weekend. Teri, BHS’80World is grateful to you for all you have done for us!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!

So, until BHS’80World reconvenes in 2010, this is the ol’ righthander rounding third and heading for home! So long, everyone!

P.S. See ya on the road (and locally, as well!).
