It's here! It's here!

Well, here we are!

The weekend we have been waiting for is upon us!

Let's get fired up! (boom boom boom boom boom)

Yes, shout it from the rooftops! Exclaim it mightily and proudly! It's BHS'80's 25th reunion weekend!

Are you ready for a reunion?

Well, all your R-O-W-D-I-E (that's the way you spell rowdie...hey, hey, get rowdie!) friends are going to be here this weekend!

:-)

We've got spirit, yes we do, we've got spirit, how about you?

This is our weekend to shine, as we gather with classmates to celebrate what we've accomplished and achieved, as we see where we've come from and where we're going!

Why, even The Pointer Sisters are so excited. They just can't hide it. They're about to lose control and they think they like it. (And they didn't even go to Bexley!).

Spirit. Let's hear it!

In the 1950's movie Brigadoon, a town in Scotland comes alive for a day every 100 years. Likewise with us, BHS'80World assembles for a long weekend every five years. And, oh, what a weekend this shapes up to be. From the Friday night mixer at Old Bag of Nails and the Saturday dinner at Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club to Sunday's school tour and family picnic at the Jeffrey Mansion shelter house, not to mention riding in Monday's parade. It will be chock full of fun (and nuts, too!) and memories as we once again are with many familiar faces.

The best word I know to describe this phenomenon is "mispucha" (mish-pook-ah; yiddish for "family.") This is really a family reunion. Oh, we'll be with our families on Sunday and Monday, but from Friday through Monday, we'll be with our Bexley family.

We are a close knit group and the extent to which we are emotionally bonded is at an all-time high and continues to trend upward! We keep doing this because we enjoy being with each other and seeing how we're all doing.

So, be sure to soak it all up, take it in, and enjoy every minute of it!

Many thanks go to those who served on the organizing commitee. It was great to work with all of you. Nice going! You did a great job. This includes: Barbara Hunt, Leslie Mormol Green, Jackie Halla Sharpe, Carole Yoder, Sherri Rossman, Susan Hughes Morgan, Susan Callif Eisenman, Rhonda Lashen Schottenstein, Tom Kauffman, Greig Lake, Michael Lefkowitz, Barbie Davis Acton, Cheryl Harris Rushman, and Cassandra Loeffert Andorka (I hope I didn't leave anyone out, I apologize if I did).

Special thanks go to our committe chair and Awesome Outstanding Alumni Rep Teri Cohodes Morof, who once again, knocked herself out and did a masterful job of coordinating every aspect in the planning of this weekend! Congratulations, Teri, on a job well-done!

As we get closer to the event, I leave you with words from page nine of our 1980 Bexleo. Editors-in-Chief Amy Arnett Budzik, Patricia Willcox Hanna, and Amy Williams Rowe provide this enlightened and insightful look to the future:

"Is it not fun to remember? But just do not forget what has passed when moving toward the future. With the seventies will go many fond memories, but the eighties are here, and it is a time of tumult and change which everyone will be a part of."

"Hello 80's, have we got a class for you!"

25 years later, we still do!

See ya this weekend!

Cathy Klunk Armstrong update

Blogmaster's note: I e-mailed Cathy regarding a Sacramento area jazz band, called "The Boondockers" I saw recently. They play dixieland jazz and combine the music with comedy. What follows is her response.

Hi David,

You are so good at keeping in touch. I get so wrapped up in things sometimes I don’t know which way I am going. I have not heard of the band …..but there is a good young blues artist that I have seen one or twice from here named Jackie Green. Catch him if you get a chance. He plays a mean harmonica.

Plans are gearing up for France as we did a ride on the Pacific Coast this weekend in preparation fro the Alps. We rode the Sierra Century a couple weeks ago to get our climbing and miles in. We now have 12 people signed up for the trip and my husband is busy making all the last minute plans.

I have quit my job as of Friday and don’t start with my new company (Roche) until the end of July. I’m really excited as it is a good company and opportunity.

It sounds like things are really gearing up for the reunion.

Take Care, and we’ll keep in touch,

Cheers,

Cathy

This is what we'll be parading around in Monday morning!

Thanks to Tom Kauffman for such a great job!

A few words about "blogs"

Hi,

Since some of you have inquired about it, I thought I would take this opportunity to enlighten you about "blogs."

"blog" is short for "web log." Basically, it's a website providing a forum where Joe and Josephine Average Sixpack American can express him or herself online. You can do this as well. Just go to www.blogger.com and follow the instructions.

Blogs have been in the news, especially those coveying various political and social rhetoric trying to sway public opinion to a particular point of view. Not all of them do so, however. This blog is an example of that. This blog is about us, the inhabitants of BHS80World!

You may also have been to http://meckblog.blogspot.com, which I update every so often. You might also want to visit my brother's site: http://red-state.com. Michael does an excellent job of presenting insight from a political and academic perspective. It's a different type of writing and style from what I do.

See you online.

See you next weekend! :-)

Top 10 Classmates Excuses for not attending the reunion

The category tonight from my home office in Reynoldsburg, OH, is Top 10 Classmates excuses for not attending the reunion. We are going to have a great turn out. However, there will be many familiar faces who will not be present during reunion weekend. Here now are the Top 10 excuses as to why this is. Here we go:

10. Attending acquittal victory party at the Neverland Ranch. Lots of drinks for the kids!

9. Out looking for a missing coin collection from the Ohio Workers Comp Bureau.

8. Saw it was at a country club and didn’t want to list it on my financial disclosure report.

7. Eating my Cool Ranch Doritos while being held captive by American interrogators, when they’re not photographing me in my underwear.

6. It would violate terms of my house arrest, according to my parole officer. Besides, it wouldn’t be "a good thing" for me to be walking around there with my ankle bracelet on, now would it?

5. Got convicted on insider trading charges and "retired" from OSU Business School. Think they will keep my name on the hotel?

4. Trying to be confirmed as US Ambassador to the United Nations.

3. Contemplating a Presidential bid in 2008. Hope Bill doesn’t mind.

2. Reporting to training camp for new job as third round draft pick running back with the Denver Broncos.

and the Number one classmates excuse for not attending our reunion:

1. Just got engaged and am planning my wedding with Katie Holmes.

Joseph W. Martin update

Awhile ago, I sent Joe a letter. Today, I got the following e-mail from him.

Enjoy!

Hey Dave,

Finally getting around to responding to your letter.

I gathered from your letter that you are working over at OSU; I’m working over here at Battelle as an electrical engineer (MSEE ’87 OSU).

I’ve been hanging out for the last 10 years in Centerburg (between Centerburg and Mount Vernon) with my wife and son (10).

I wasn’t planning on attending the do next month. Perhaps I’ll see you around sometime.

Reunion weekend update from Teri

Class.....

The meeting went great.

The major things discussed were the parade, the Sat. night dinner, and Friday night. Here is what we are planning:

On Friday at Old Bag of Nails: you will receive a weekend schedule so you will know everything that is going on....times, phone numbers, places, etc.

On Saturday, the dinner is at a country club and it would most likely be appropriate for men to wear sports jackets and women to wear dresses, skirts, and nice slacks. Please bring your check books or cash as it will be a cash bar and the class picture will be $15 to be paid that evening. Yes, we will let you in the dinner that night with your check. If that is what you are planning, let us know a few days ahead as we need to try to give the country club a count that is as close as possible to what we think are numbers will be. THIS MEANS IF YOU ARE COMING LET US KNOW! Also, let us know if you will be bringing your spouse, date, etc., so we know to count in 2 for you.

Sunday there will be a tour of the high school at noon. You can come anytime between 12-2 as far as I know right now....so for those of you that stay out late on Sat. night you can still get a sneak peak of the high school by 2 PM!

Monday, there is a change in meeting spot for the parade. We are now meeting at Susan Callif Eisenman's house, 192 N. Ardmore. We will gather at 8:30 AM.

Class update packets will be available on Sat. evening, Sunday at the school and at the picnic, and Monday at the parade. THose of you that are only coming Friday will receive yours by mail. aLso, update forms will be available to be filled out during the weekend and I can put together an addendum to our packet for those that don't get a chance to get theirs back. Please try and get those to me. I would be so grateful to have as many classmates in this booklet as possible. It is so much for fun to read when people take the time to fill it out and share their thoughts.

One more thing, PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PHOTOS IMMEDIATELY! I AM PUTTING TOGETHER OUR PHOTO ALBUM AND I NEED SOME NEW PHOTOS...Thanks to Trish, Beth, Susan C., Jay Elhard, and Cassandra for being the first to get me their family photos. I prefer in the mail photos as my printer's quality is not so great for photos. Also, enclosed self addressed envelope, I am more than happy to return your photos.Teri Morof1795 Latham StreetBirmingham, MI 48009248-505-3331 cell phone.

While we are on the topic of photos, here is what I need: I am looking for class photos of all elementary classes at Cassingham, Maryland, and Montrose. I was in Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Yearling, Mrs. Ewell, and Mrs. Porter at Cassingham so I have these class photos. If you could allow me to copy your originals, that would be awesome. IF you could copy your originals, and send the copies to me, I will reimburse you all costs. I would like to get all classes K-6. many of us still have our Cubs and high school year books (Bexleo), but wouldn't it be fun to see us in grade school to and reminisce about classmates that we knew way back when?

4th of July parade notes

The following comes from page 7 of the June 13, 2005 edition of The Eastside Messenger:

"The 46th annual Bexley Fourth of July parade will honor America's independence and the 100th birthday of Jeffrey Mansion with the theme 'Celebrating 100 Years of Our Community Home' July 4."

"Parade entrants are encouraged to create unique and patriotic entries that will celebrate this historic event."

"The mansion was built by the Jeffrey family in 1905 and was deeded to the city in 1941. It is used as offices of the recreation department and hosts public and private events."

"Bexley Celebrations Association will accept parade entries through June 24. Entry forms are available at Bexley City Hall, Bexley Parks and Recreation at Jeffrey Mansion, or by calling Cindy Phillips at 235-0894."

"Due to scheduled road construction on Main Street, the parade will detour north on Euclaire Avenue from Mound Street, turn west on Main and continue north on Cassady Avenue, continuing on to Fair Avenue and ending at Bexley High School."

This means that the parade will not go on Mound all the way over to Pleasant Ridge and then to Main before turning on to Dawson to Fair to BHS, as has been traditionally the case.

"Back to School":Newly added Reunion event

Looking for something to do Sunday afternoon before the picnic? How about going back to school? No, we're not screening the classic Rodney Dangerfield movie. We're doing much better than that! Here is an e-mail from Teri about a newly added reunion event:

Dear Classmates,

I am so pleased to let you know that we were able to set up a tour of the high school. Those of you that are interested in seeing the high school since the renovations are welcome to get a glimpse of it on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at noon.

Plan to meet at the main entrance around noon and we will have access to the building at that time. More details to come.

Thank you, Barbie Davis Acton and Eric, for helping to organize this.

Sincerely,

Teri Cohodes Morof
Alumni Representative/Reunion Chair

Happy 25th Anniversary!

"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend Come inside! Come inside!"
-Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

Bexley High School

Wow! Can you believe it's been a quarter of a century? Where has all the time gone? Well, here we are. To paraphrase a popular Beatle tune, "It was 25 years ago today that Donald Wynkoop sent us off to play..."

A month from now, during July 4th weekend, we will gather together with people we grew up and went to school with, some of whom we haven't seen since receiving our diplomas in that hot and stuffy gymnasium on that first night of June, a quarter century ago.

As you attend any or all of the reunion events, be sure to soak up the excitement of being with other kids you hung around out with, look around and marvel at the vast array of people from all walks of life who go out there every day and accomplish great things that make positive differences in the lives of others as well as brightening up people's days. Doctors, lawyers, educators, artists, stay at home parents, entrepreneuers, as well as media professionals, and everyone else in between. It's just incredible to think about.

Now, what's in name? In recent years, I've seen a person named "Troy Bell" play basketball for Boston College. I've seen my beloved Ohio State football Buckeyes lose to a Michigan State squad quarterbacked by an individual known as "Bill Burke." And, nowadays, a national network evening newscast is anchored by someone identified as "Brian Williams." Small world isn't it?

Many of you might be wonder"Meck, what are you doing here? You don't need a reunion. The last five years has been an ongoing reunion for you." Indeed, it has been my great fortune to have met up with so many of you, not just around town locally, but all across the country, as well. Yes, from Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Toledo, to Scottsdale, Seattle, Petoskey, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Larchmont, I have enjoyed our visits. They are a highlight of my travels and I look forward to more of them in the future. The central Ohio visits in various locales, such as Grandview, the OSU campus area, Bexley, and Pickerington have also been very enjoyable. My thanks to all of you whom I've met up with for making it a great time.

So, how do things stand after 25 years? Great! What does it hold for the future?

"In the year 2525.
If Teri's still alive,
If the rest of the planning committee can survive,
We will have BHS'80 reunion 545!"

But, until then, to review, let's meet up with classmates only at Old Bag of Nails in Bexley on Friday night July 1 from 7-11 pm and follow that up with a dinner for classmates, spouses/sig others on Saturday nigh July 2 starting at 6:30 pm at Rocky Fork Country Club in Gahanna. We'll have a photo taken at 7:30 pm. On Sunday, how about gathering at the Jeffrey Mansion shelter house from 2-5 pm for a family picnic and on Monday, joining us to ride in the Bexley July 4th parade. Meet at Tom Kauffman's, 302 North Ardmore (corner of Ardmore and Maryland) at 8:30 am.

"We would like it to be known the exhibits that were shown
were exclusively our own,
All our own. All our own.
Come and see the show! Come and see the show!
Come and see the show! See the show!"

-Emerson Lake and Palmer

Welcome to the show! See you in a month!

Meck
